Drooping Brows and Sagging Foreheads: Treatment Options By Nimit D on January 12, 2016

A number of patients wonder what can be done about drooping and sagging of the forehead. Forehead/brow lift surgery is just one of many options to consider. Let's go over surgical and non-surgical treatments right now.

Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery is one of the more ideal treatment options when you suffer from a drooping or sagging forehead. During brow lift surgery, excess skin is removed from the upper portion of the face around the hairline and around the scalp. Working through a large incision or several small incisions, a cosmetic surgeon is able to adjust the underlying structures of the brow and pull the skin of the forehead tighter. This reduces the appearance of deep lines and furrows as well.

There are different ways that a brow lift can be performed, and the right option for doing the surgery can be discussed in more detail during your visit to the practice.

Upper Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

When the issue with a drooping brow is the result of sagging upper eyelid skin rather than just the brow itself or the brow per se, upper eyelid surgery may be the most ideal option to consider. During upper eyelid surgery, loose skin of the upper eyelid is removed to improve the overall appearance of the eye area.

BOTOX® Injections

In some cases the issues with forehead lines and wrinkles are best addressed through non-surgical means rather than surgical ones. BOTOX® injections are a great option to consider in this regard. The BOTOX® cosmetic solution is such that it paralyzes muscle movements in the injection site, which prevents the formation of wrinkles and lines related to muscle contractions. This can help make the forehead area appear tighter and smoother.

Dermal Filler Injections

BOTOX® injections are not the only non-surgical option to consider for a drooping or sagging brow area. Another cosmetic injection option to consider is the use of dermal fillers. Dermal fillers are special solutions that add volume to the injection site, which is perfect for deep lines, wrinkles, and any sunken or hollow parts of the face. There are many different kinds of dermal fillers available to meet different needs, and we can help select the right one for you.

Fat Transfer Treatments

One last option to consider that may prove helpful is a fat transfer treatment. During fat transfer, liposuction is performed to harvest fat from part of the body. This fat is then purified through the use of centrifugal force and then injected into a specified treatment area. The fat serves a similar function as a dermal filler, and there is limited absorption of the fat back into the body.

Which Treatment Is Right for Me?

No two patients are alike, and it's important each treatment be tailored to the needs of each person who comes into the practice. During the consultation process, we'll go over all options with you in greater detail and help you get just the treatment you need.
