Latisse Eyelash Lengthening By Nimit D on September 14, 2012

Ottawa Latisse Eyelash LengtheningDr. Peter Brownrigg specializes in cosmetic enhancements of the face and neck. At Dr. Brownrigg’s Ottawa plastic surgery practice, patients can receive treatment to enhance and rejuvenate facial features. Our eyes are the most prominent feature on our face. People generally want their eyes to stand out and draw people in. Dark, long, thick eyelashes help frame the eyes and make them look more beautiful. People who have sparse, thin eyelashes may wish to enhance their eyelashes. Mascara can offer a temporary solution to light, sparse eyelashes, but some patients want more dramatic results. Dr. Browrigg’s patients in Ottawa may benefit from the use of Latisse, a prescription treatment for thin eyelashes.

What Is Latisse?

Latisse Lash is a prescription treatment for patients suffering from hypotrichosis, an inadequate amount of eyelashes. Latisse contains bimatoprost, which is similar to a natural substance found in the body. Bimatoprost promotes the growth of more eyelashes and causes them to become longer and darker.

Use of Latisse

It is important to follow Dr. Brownrigg’s instructions and read the prescription pamphlet that comes with Latisse before use. In general, Latisse is applied nightly directly to the skin of the eyelid at the base of the eyelashes. Applicators are provided to apply Latisse. Before applying Latisse, you should wash your hands and face and remove contacts, if necessary. When Latisse is applied, the area should feel moist but there should not be any runoff of the product. If runoff does occur, wipe away the excess liquid. This process should be repeated for the other eye with a fresh applicator. To ensure a sterile application, applicators should never be reused. To receive the full results from Latisse, the product will need to be used regularly. It may take up to two months for the full benefits of the product to be seen. The results of Latisse are not permanent. If you cease using the medication, you can expect your lashes to return to their previous state.

Side Effects

Dr. Brownrigg will prescribe Latisse if he believes the benefits will outweigh the risk of side effects. Most patients who use Latisse do not experience any serious side effects. However, the following symptoms may occur in some patients:

  • Red eyes or eyelids
  • Dry eyes
  • Itchy eyes or general discomfort
  • A darkening of the skin on the eyelids at the base of the eyelashes

If you experience any of the above symptoms or experience an allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing) to Latisse, contact Dr. Brownrigg immediately.

Dr. Peter Brownrigg offers numerous treatments to enhance your natural beauty and give your face a fresh and youthful appearance. For our patients in Ottawa, BOTOX® Cosmetic, injectable fillers, and microdermabrasion are some of the non-surgical treatments available.
