The Effects of Restylane® By Nimit D on August 4, 2011

If you want to enhance your overall appearance, it’s important that you consider all of your options for aesthetic enhancement. It’s true that facial cosmetic surgery techniques such as the facelift or the brow lift can go a long way to enhancing your overall appearance, but there are also other important non-surgical options that you should consider if you are looking to improve the overall appearance of your face. These treatment options involve no incisions, no anesthetic, and no downtime. In fact, these treatments are so quickly performed and so efficient that some people get them done during their lunch hours.

When you come to the Ottawa plastic surgery practice of Dr. Peter Brownrigg, he will asses your situation and determine if you are eligible for some non-surgical cosmetic treatment. He will then be able to go over all of these options with you so you know what to expect and which treatment may best be suited to meet your unique aesthetic goals.

One such treatment option is Restylane®. Restylane® is an injected cosmetic solution that helps reduce wrinkles and enhance the suppleness and fullness of the injection site. It is because of these effects that Restylane® is classes as dermal filler. Let’s take a quick look at what Restylane® is comprised of, what it can do, how long its effects last, and some Restylane® alternatives.

First of all, Restylane® is a special substance crafted from hyaluronic acid. This is a regularly occurring substance in the body, reducing the chance of allergic reactions that people get from animal derived cosmetic substances. (One example of this is bovine collagen which is sometimes used in facial injections.)

Restylane® is extremely effective for reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the face through the use of targeted injections. These injections of Restylane® will improve the fullness and volume of that part of the face, eliminating wrinkles and leaving you looking more youthful and brimming with a vibrant glow. You will likely notice an enhancement of your appearance almost immediately after you have undergone treatment, though results will generally stabilize after a few days.

Like other dermal fillers and cosmetic injections, the effects of Restylane® are not permanent. In general, Restylane® injections will last for roughly six months. The good thing is that repeat Restylane® injections can be performed as needed in order to restore its positive effects on your appearance.

There are plenty of alternative to Restylane® that you may want to consider. This includes other dermal fillers which have comparable results as well as Ottawa BOTOX® injections. BOTOX® injections are not like dermal fillers and instead work by freezing muscles in the injection site to reduce the appearance of and prevent the formation of wrinkles. Dr. Brownrigg can tell you which option may work best for you.
