Fat Injections Treatment
For every possible aesthetic flaw in a person’s appearance, plastic surgery offers numerous possible solutions, ranging from the non-surgical to advanced minimally invasive surgeries. There are any number of effective ways to turn back the hands of time, rejuvenating the skin and refining the contours of the face and body. Ottawa plastic surgeon Peter Brownrigg provides the safest, most highly effective plastic surgery procedures at his practice, helping his patients to achieve the natural, beautiful results they desire without the tell-tale signs of having undergone cosmetic treatment.
Among the best ways to rejuvenate the skin of the face is through fat transfer. Fat transfer can be performed to restore volume to hollow areas of the face and to soften the appearance of wrinkles, folds, and fine lines. The results of fat transfer are long-lasting and stunning. In the hands of an experienced professional such as Dr. Brownrigg in Ottawa, fat transfer treatment is both safe and remarkably effective.
What Is Fat Transfer?
The fat transfer procedure consists of three basic stages:
- The removal of fat from an area where it is abundant
- The purification of the removed fat cells
- The injection of the prepared fat into areas in need of volume
The first of these stages is carried out via liposuction. Liposuction involves the removal of isolated deposits of fat through minimal incisions using a thin surgical device called a cannula. The cannula is used to break up the fat and then gently suction it out. In the sense that liposuction can improve the appearance of the body where fat has accumulated, the fat transfer procedure is like undergoing two cosmetic procedures in one.
Once the fat has been removed, it is prepared for transfer. The process of purifying the fat cells is highly important as it will help to determine how many of the withdrawn fat cells will survive and, once transferred, thrive in their new location.
The removed fat is then administered to areas of the face in which volume is needed, via injections using a superfine needle. Beyond the initial liposuction procedure, no further incisions are necessary. The fat is carefully distributed to ensure the most aesthetically pleasing results possible. At our practice in Ottawa, facelift candidates often find that they are able to achieve highly satisfactory results non-surgically through fat transfer.
Benefits of Fat Transfer
Unlike any other injectable treatment, the results of fat transfer are at least partially permanent, depending on how much of the transplanted fat thrives in its new position. The fat cells that survive past a certain period will most likely remain in place a lifetime. While the chances of all of the transferred fat cells surviving are extremely low, there is a good chance that between 40 to 60 percent will last a lifetime. Further touch-up treatments are possible but, with proper planning and distribution of the fat, will probably not be necessary.
Another benefit of fat transfer is that it is extremely safe, with very little risk of serious side effects. Because your own tissues will be used in the procedure, there is virtually no risk of allergic reaction or tissue rejection. Due to Dr. Brownrigg’s exceptional talents and eye for aesthetics, you can be assured of both your safety and the quality of your results.
