BOTOX® Injections vs. Dermal Fillers
If you would like to enhance the appearance of your face but would like to avoid undergoing facial plastic surgery, one of the best options to consider are cosmetic injection treatments. These options rely on safe injectable solutions that will achieve impressive aesthetic results with proper use. Skilled Ottawa, Ontario plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Brownrigg has been using both surgical treatments and non-surgical treatments to provide patients with pleasing results.
About Cosmetic Injections and Injectables
There are many advantages to getting non-surgical treatments rather than undergoing facial plastic surgery. For one, many patients are attracted to the lack of downtime or a lengthy recovery period. Since there is no anesthetic or incisions involved, patients can be up and about right after treatment is completed. In addition, while the effects of cosmetic injections will wear off after a few months, repeat treatments can be performed as needed to maintain the results achieved.
BOTOX® Injections vs. Dermal Fillers
Now, there are quite a few misconceptions about cosmetic injectables. Many people think that the term “dermal fillers” cover the whole gamut of injections or that all injections work like Ottawa, Ontario BOTOX® injections. Let’s differentiate between the two right now so you have a better understanding what treatment involves.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are among the more prevalent cosmetic injections that people can get. These include injections such as Restylane® SubQ&™, Juvederm®, and Juvederm&™Voluma&™. Dermal fillers are used to increase the volume and fullness of certain parts of the face, such as the jawline, the area around the mouth, and the lips. Wrinkles are reduced by this addition of natural-looking volume to the face.
What are BOTOX® injections?
By contrast, BOTOX® injections do not enhance volume. Instead, BOTOX® injections reduce muscle activity in the injection sites. By reducing muscle activity, the wrinkles that are commonly found in the treatment area will fade off.
How do cosmetic injections compare to facial plastic surgery?
We mentioned above that many people like dermal fillers and BOTOX® injections compared to facelift or cosmetic eyelid surgery. You can get rather nice results with dermal fillers which are comparable to facial plastic surgery. With that in mind, though, sometimes it’s better for a patient to undergo facial plastic surgery in some cases. This is purely on a patient to patient basis, of course.
How do cosmetic injections compare to facial implant options?
In addition to traditional options for facial plastic surgery, there are also facial implants and fat transplants to consider. Facial implants are permanent ways to add enhanced volume or shape to a given area of the face. Fat transplants are similar to dermal fillers in some ways in that the techniques uses the patient’s own transferred body fat to enhance volume. As with other facial plastic surgery methods, cosmetic injections can provide comparable results to surgery.
