Brow Lift Timeline

The tools, technology, and techniques used during your surgery will vary depending on what needs to be done and the look we are ultimately trying to achieve. For example, patients interested in improving their upper eyelids during a brow lift will require additional treatment on top of this general outline. For patients simply interested in rejuvenating the look of their brow, surgery generally includes:

Consultation and Planning

During your consultation,  Dr. Brownrigg will answer any questions you may have regarding your treatment. Once your individual treatment plan has been determined, we will schedule your surgery at either the Ottawa Civic Hospital, the Riverside Hospital, or the Ottawa SurgiCentre.

Anesthesia Administered

On the day of your surgery, you will receive both local and general anesthesia. This will allow you to remain calm and comfortable during your treatment.

Incisions Are Made

During an endoscopic brow lift, Dr. Brownrigg will create a series of small incisions that will be hidden behind your hairline so that he can access the tissue beneath your forehead skin.

Brow Tissue Alteration

Using advanced endoscopic equipment, the tissue in your brow will be gently released and elevated to smooth over the lines and creases that affect your appearance. Once in place, the muscle tissue is secured using sutures.

Skin Lift

With the muscle tissue secure, the skin on your brow is lifted and excess skin is trimmed away. Once Dr. Brownrigg is satisfied with your new brow, the incisions behind your hairline are closed.

Recovery

Endoscopic brow lifts generally have a reduced recovery time when compared to more invasive or "open" brow surgeries. Full post-surgery recovery takes several months, but many patients feel comfortable resuming their normal daily routine after about a week or two.

What Can I Expect Following Surgery?

Since each surgery is customized for your needs, our friendly team will provide you with tailored post-operative instructions to help prevent infection, minimize discomfort, and help you achieve the best possible results for your procedure. While your specific instructions may vary, general post-surgery instructions for a brow lift include:

Rest

Plenty of rest in the days following your surgery is fundamental to a good recovery. You may also require supervision for the first 24 hours to help facilitate effective rest and recovery.

Pain Medication

Dr. Brownrigg may prescribe medication or advise you to take over-the-counter pain relievers to help manage any discomfort you may experience following your procedure.

Cold Compresses

The use of cold compresses can help minimize swelling and inflammation, which in turn helps speed up the recovery process.

Sleep Upright

Elevating your head while sleeping for the first week after surgery can help reduce swelling, bleeding, and discomfort.
